Sonstige Insekten (Other Insects)
In Sri Lanka gibt es aufgrund der ganzjährig warmen Temperaturen eine große Artenvielfalt innerhalb der Klasse der Insekten. Neben einigen großen Ordnungen wie den Käfern oder Hautflüglern kommen in dem Land zahlreiche andere Vertreter der Insekten vor, von denen in diesem Kapitel einige vorgestellt werden. Walkeriana ovilla, endemische Art
In Sri Lanka liegt das Verbreitungsgebiet der Schildlausart Walkeriana ovilla.
Sie gehört zur Familie der Margarodidae. Man findet diese Tiere in
Wäldern und anderen Gebieten, in denen ihre Wirtspflanzen vorhanden
sind. Walkeriana ovilla lebt auf Magnolia nilagirica
und Syzygium umbrosum. Die durchschnittliche Körperlänge
beträgt 15 bis 20 Millimeter, die Breite kann etwa zehn bis 15
Millimeter betragen. Besonders große Individuen können bis zu 25
Millimeter lang sein. Der flache Körper dieser Läuse ist oval bis rund
geformt. Farblich variieren die Tiere von braun bis orangebraun und
weißlich. Charakteristisch für diese Tierart ist, dass sie kleine
Anhängsel seitlich am Körper und auf der Oberseite hat. Diese Anhängsel können bei
